With over 20 years of experience in creating veneers that beautifully enhance your smile, cosmetic dentist Dr. Hawary can transform your smile from unpleasing to fantastic – in just a few days, if that is your desire. Veneers can be made to match or replace your natural teeth. You can customize your tooth length, width, size, color, translucency, texture, shape, and form with veneers.
Dental veneers are thin shells that are custom-made to adhere to the front of the natural tooth. The longest-lasting and most natural looking veneers are made from extra high-quality porcelain.
Veneers are a strong, stain-resistant, and long-lasting remedy for most of the aesthetic issues an individual can have with their teeth: misalignment, uneven shape, abnormal spacing, worn edges, chips, cracks, breakage, and discoloration.
How Irvine Veneers Work
Veneers are bonded to the teeth much like acrylic fingernails are bonded to the natural nail. The surface of each treated tooth must be roughened with etching to ensure the best possible bond. Once this bond is established, the veneer is basically a part of the natural tooth.
Along with the etching of the tooth surface, about 0.1 to 0.5 millimeters of enamel is removed from the edges of the natural tooth and replaced with the veneer. If a porcelain veneer becomes cracked or chipped, it must be completely replaced rather than repaired.
Patients can also customize their tooth length, width, size, color, translucency, texture, shape, and form with veneers. Veneers can be made to be as thin as a contact lens or thicker to conceal discoloration or other problems.

Porcelain veneers in Irvine are an excellent option for individuals seeking a moderate yet impactful transformation in the appearance of their teeth. Ideal candidates are those who desire more than minor changes to tooth shape, provided by bonding, but are not in need of the extensive shaping associated with dental crowns. These candidates often have discoloration concerns arising from root canal treatment, medication use, excessive fluoride, or the presence of large resin fillings. Porcelain veneers offer a cosmetic solution that effectively disguises such discoloration issues while providing a balanced and aesthetically pleasing enhancement to the overall look of the teeth.
At Dr. Hawary’s office, the process for getting porcelain veneers placed is typically done in two visits.
At the first visit, Dr. Hawary will take detailed photographs of your teeth, a smile analysis as well as a diagnostic wax-up will be done to design your new smile. Your teeth will be prepared for the new veneers and an impression of the teeth will be made and sent out to the dental laboratory that will fabricate the veneer. It will take about 1 to 2 weeks for the veneers to return from the laboratory. Temporary veneers will be placed so you can experience them for a few days while the permanent ones are made.
At your second visit the permanent veneers will be bonded to your teeth and your bite adjusted to make sure everything is comfortable and looks beautiful. The veneer may be trimmed as needed in order to achieve the proper fit. The color can also be adjusted with the shade of cement used. To prepare the teeth to receive the veneers, they will be cleaned, polished, and etched. Once the correct position is established, a special light beam will be applied, which will cause the cement to cure. Once all the veneers are placed, any excess cement will be removed and any other final adjustments will be made.
During the initial consultation, all aspects of a patient’s smile are assessed to help determine the best treatment plan and to ensure that the most aesthetically pleasing result is achieved.
