How Irvine Veneers Work

Along with the etching of the tooth surface, about 0.1 to 0.5 millimeters of enamel is removed from the edges of the natural tooth and replaced with the veneer. If a porcelain veneer becomes cracked or chipped, it must be completely replaced rather than repaired.

Patients can also customize their tooth length, width, size, color, translucency, texture, shape, and form with veneers. Veneers can be made to be as thin as a contact lens or thicker to conceal discoloration or other problems.

Best Candidates for Irvine Porcelain Veneers

The best candidates for veneers would like more than a minor change to the shape of their teeth (as achieved with bonding), but less of a change than the extensive shaping required with crowns.

Veneers can disguise discoloration caused by root canal treatment, antibiotics or other drugs, excessive fluoride use, or the presence of large resin fillings.

Porcelain Veneers Procedure Process

At Dr. Hawary’s office, the process for getting porcelain veneers placed is typically done in two visits.

At the first visit, Dr. Hawary will take detailed photographs of your teeth, a smile analysis as well as a diagnostic wax-up will be done to design your new smile. Your teeth will be prepared for the new veneers and an impression of the teeth will be made and sent out to the dental laboratory that will fabricate the veneer. It will take about 1 to 2 weeks for the veneers to return from the laboratory. Temporary veneers will be placed so you can experience them for a few days while the permanent ones are made.

At your second visit the permanent veneers will be bonded to your teeth and your bite adjusted to make sure everything is comfortable and looks beautiful. The veneer may be trimmed as needed in order to achieve the proper fit. The color can also be adjusted with the shade of cement used. To prepare the teeth to receive the veneers, they will be cleaned, polished, and etched. Once the correct position is established, a special light beam will be applied, which will cause the cement to cure. Once all the veneers are placed, any excess cement will be removed and any other final adjustments will be made.

During the initial consultation, all aspects of a patient’s smile are assessed to help determine the best treatment plan and to ensure that the most aesthetically pleasing result is achieved.

Irvine Prepless Veneers

“Prepless veneers” are veneers that are bonded to the surface of your teeth, with no or limited tooth structure being removed or reshaped in preparation to receive the veneers. They can be appropriate to correct some conditions –such as reshaping teeth that are too small.

Retain more enamel, which increases bond strength and the long-term integrity of the margins.
